Botanical Garden in Bydgoszcz

Botanical Garden of Plant Breeding and Acclimatization Institute is one of 36 facilities that belong to the Botanical Gardens and Arboretum Council. Plants coming from all over the world are cultivated there. Scientific activity is coordinated by the National Centre for Plant Genetic Resources: Polish Genebank. The key activity of Botanical Garden is collection, evaluation and preservation of grass genetic resources, which is laid down in European Cooperative Programme for Crop Genetic Resources Networks (ECP/GR) and coordinated by Biodiversity International.

Objectives:

  • gathering genetic resources during collecting missions or by exchanging genetic materials with other institutions,
  • collection, evaluation, documentation and provision of genetic resources of dicotyledonous species, forage species, reclamation plants, and other,
  • managing European Dactylis Database and European Festuca Database,
  • raising public awareness in terms of nature, environment and ecology.
